Raag Triveni

The general structure of Raag Triveni (राग त्रिवेणी) a.k.a Tirvan is that, it is based on Raag Shree (राग श्री) but, without the Madhyam swar (मध्यम स्वर). Because of the absence of Madhyam (मध्यम), even the Raag Shree (राग श्री) gets modified in both Aaroh & Avroh (आरोह & अवरोह).

Pt. V. N. Bhatkhande describes Raag Triveni (राग त्रिवेणी) in the 5th volume of Kramik Pustak Maalika (क्रमिक पुस्तक मालिका) as emerging from the Purvi Thaat (पूर्वी ठाठ), with Vaadi Rishabh & Samvaadi Pacham (वादी रिषभ & संवादी पंचम).

Above is a Triveni recording from a private concert in Mumbai, circa 1995.

In the above recording, the first bandish (बंदिश) is sung in Vilambit Teentaal (विलंबित तीनताल). The text of the bandish (बंदिश) is:

त्रिवेणी कालिंदी सरस्वती

अरुन बरनी उजल बदनी

तूही गंगा |

बेनी प्रकाश घटा सेतुरंग

खंजन मीन लिये संग ||

The drut laya bandish (द्रुत लय बंदिश) is a Tarana (तराना) in Teentaal (तीनताल) composed by Prof. Malshe himself.
